The Hall was host to many functions over the years. These included Concerts,
Amateur Hour, Mock Wedddings, Fancy Dress Balls, Race Balls, Dances by CWA
and Farmers Association, Ambulance Benefits.
Other entertainment included District Picnics when people bought baskets
of food and had a wonderful day out at the River
on the Angle.
Sports Days were held and Competitions such as tent pegging, wood chopping,
driving the nail, throwing the broom, and flag races were part of the action.
Tennis clubs were very competitive and many a pleasant day was had by all.
Today the Hall plays hosts to meetings, workshops and Dances.

Construction

The
Alton Downs Hotel, located on the corner of Ridgelands Road and South Yaamba
Road. Today there is a small automatic telephone exchange there.

Getting around on push bikes, riding down for a game of Tennis
The
centres of worship were St.James Anglican Church which was later relocated to
Rockhampton and St Stephen's Catholic Church which is located at Black Gin Creek
and still holds services today. The cemetery, established in 1902, with the
cost of each grave to be 10 shillings. It is located in McKenzie Road and is
a strong testament to human endeavour within the district.
